Cambridge A Levels, taught all the way to an A*.

Whales follows the Cambridge International (CAIE) AS and A Level syllabi. Students choose a stream of three subjects plus General Paper, and can add extra subjects. Our teaching is skills based and student centred, and it is planned so that no student needs outside tuition.

Four exams. One honest ranking.

Our ranking system makes every exam count, so students work hard from the very first day of the session.

Each session has four full length exams in the Cambridge pattern. Results are aggregate and percentile based, in line with Cambridge grade thresholds, and a set share of each exam's marks carries forward to the final ranking.

  • Fortnightly quizzes before every exam: 20% of the subject result
  • Monthly home assignments: 10% of the subject result
  • Weighted marks carried forward to produce a fair yearly ranking
  1. Exam 1

    October

  2. Exam 2

    December

  3. Pre Mock

    February

  4. Mock

April, before the May and June Cambridge series

Effort gets noticed

Every year Whales holds an award ceremony for Cambridge results and for achievements outside the classroom. Parents are invited to celebrate with us.

Academic awards

Awards in all four college exams and for Cambridge results, including certificates, shields and laptops for top achievers.

Activity awards

For debates, MUNs, leadership conferences and seminars, sports tournaments, singing, drama, raft regatta, water rocket and treasure hunts.

Leadership awards

For the Students Council, Head Boys and Head Girls and their deputies who help run elections, sports week and college events.

How we teach

Our curriculum is spiral: key concepts return across the year with more depth each time, so students master them rather than memorise them.

  • Cambridge syllabi and exam patterns in every subject
  • Full past paper practice and teacher prepared notes
  • Double classes in place of evening tuition
  • Tutorial sessions through the week for individual help
  • Free workshops in the run up to Cambridge exams
  • Public speaking sessions to build confidence and presentation skills
